On Transliteracy

– First time at ALA Annual since 2006. Did an invited presentation on transliteracy. I was so excited to learn about the group at ALA Midwinter, and really enjoyed the discussion amongst librarians from different library types. Being able to teach “traditional” instruction sessions (Sociology, etc) and technology skills via workshops and course instruction  makes me very curious about approaches & standards to address both those worlds.

When preparing for the the presentation (and afterwards) it brought back thoughts of  ACRL 2010 Immersion graduate (teacher track).  I don’t think info lit standards have be thrown out the window or stop advocating for them. That said, the  prevailing definition of transliteracy does nicely complement activities I’ve done as instructional technologies librarian and in my UCRS freshman year seminar instruction activities.  Here’s an excerpt explaining what was discussed…
